When I start Skyrim, a pop-up window says: " Could not find HiAlgo engine dll, quitting " and I just start the game normally. When it happened I wanted to make sure if it was a problem related to that game only or not, and I decided to try Magicka, but when I launch it, and I click on "Yes please" on the HiAlgo pop-up, the game just closes, like I never launched it. Any ideas?

Let me guess: you posted it in Hialgo BOOST -- Skyrim forum, but actually you are running HiAlgo SWITCH, right? Or CHILL? (I understand, you were playing Skyrim, and this is the forum for Skyrim, no problem [smile]).

Further guess or rather question: the popup window, what exactly it says: " Could not find HiAlgo engine dll, quitting " or maybe "HookDll.dll not found, quitting..."?

Anyway, please post more details: what have you installed, what is the title of the window where you click "Yes please" (I'd guess "HiAlgo SWITCH Injector"), etc. We'll help you to figure out the problem.

Oh, I really didn't realize this was the BOOST section, so thanks for helping me anyway. The HiAlgo SWITCH Injector window says exactly: "Could not find HiAlgo engine dll, quitting...". I haven't installed any mods, I have this problem since when I installed the game.. Unfortunately at the moment I have only these two games (Skyrim and Magicka) because of the PC reset I've just done. What I find strange is that HiAlgo shows two different issues with two different games.. I really can't understand where the problem is. Hope you can help.

1. About "Could not find HiAlgo engine dll, quitting..." message: it is the message from our program, but -- funnily -- I cannot find when we display it. Blushing. Almost crying [bawl]. Will need more time to investigate.

2. I cannot explain the difference between Skyrim and Magicka behavior. Could it be that you have HiAlgoBoost for Skyrim installed? Or maybe you had it installed? If you had - please check that these files are not present in Skyrim folder (something like C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\): d3d9.dll, dinput8.dll, xinput1_3.dll.

3. Meanwhile, what you can do is to look into "game folders" that should be created for each of the games you tried to run -- here is where you find them. In these folders, there should be *.log files, they may have some info, some error messages, that can help us to understand the problem.

There's something new. I was trying one more time to make it work, and no "Could not find HiAlgo engine dll, quitting" message came up. But the game still won't start, it looks everything normal, and then "SkyrimLauncher has stopped working", then everything closes and I get back to my desktop. I checked the HiAlgo game folder for Skyrim, and I found this "HiAlgoSwitch" file, which says:
"Attaching to process...
Failed to load hialgo_cache. Reason: File not found: D:\Program Files (x86)\HiAlgo\Plugins\SWITCH\hialgo_cache".
I never installed HiAlgo BOOST. I truly have no clue of what it could be.

These are normal messages:

"Attaching to process...
Failed to load hialgo_cache. Reason: File not found: D:\Program Files (x86)\HiAlgo\Plugins\SWITCH\hialgo_cache".

We do not provide default cache, and when SWITCH is injected for the first time int specific, there is no cache for this game yet. After the first launch, there should be file cache1 in the game folder. If the game terminates normally, there should also be line

"Detaching from process..."

You don't have it because of the crash. I still have to figure out about this "Could not find HiAlgo engine dll, quitting" message. Meanwhile - can you show the content of your folder C:\Users\ESDELDUR\Documents\My Games\HiAlgo\SWITCH_v0.5\ ?

========================================

Oh, and about Magicka: we do not know whether SWITCH is working with it. Maybe you can try some other game from this list.

And yet another idea: try updating your video driver and especially DirectX 9 -- it very often helps.

In the HiAlgo folder there is the Skyrim folder, which contains the following files:

•cache.bck  (BCK file)

Also, both games use to work with SWITCH before I changed PC (I had Windows 8, now I'm running Windows 7 Professional), which is why I'm sure Magicka works perfectly fine with SWITCH (actually, it works really fine, a lot better than Skyrim. Somehow I improved a lot my FPS without lowering the graphics).
Now I'll update my video driver, but I don't think it will work. Thanks anyway for your help, I'll be waiting for you to find out something more about the quitting message.

OK, then I will update the list of games, cool.

About "Could not find HiAlgo engine dll, quitting" message: it is shown if our d3d9.dll is trying to find and load HiAlgoSwitch.dll and cannot find it in the same folder it resides. (Perhaps, not important now, because you do not see this message anymore). If you see it, reinstalling SWITCH should help.

About "worked before but now I'm running Windows 7 Professional" -- there is a very good chance that updating DirectX 9 would help. Windows OS often comes with not complete or not fully updated version of graphics, because it is not important for the most of the applications.

I've done everything you told me, but nothing seems to work..

Ooooo that's very good! [smile] You might have found a serious bug for us! I see that your windows is installed under "D:\", and not under "C:\"... Could that be the reason? @QuiteReluctant - what do you think?

But wait - are you still getting the message "Could not find HiAlgo engine dll, quitting..." ? This can happen if you have copied our d3d9.dll to the Skyrim game folder...  It's under "\Steam\SteamApps\common\skyrim\"...

I'll try to move Skyrim's folder from "D:\" to "C:\" and see what happens, it could actually be the problem. And no, I'm not getting the "Could not find HiAlgo engine dll, quitting..." message, I don't know why, it just randomly stopped popping up.

Nothing changes by moving the Skyrim's folder... I guess there is no solution :\

HiAlgoBoost
What?! No, don't move the Skyrim folder [smile]))) If there is a problem - it is with windows folder, not Skyrim folder [smile]))

So what - the game simply crashes now? (i.e. doesn't start) ? Does Skyrim work without Switch? We can do a remote access session if you want...

...Or maybe connect via Skype and I'll ask you to do this and that...

Err, this is pretty strange, but now it works. I really don't know why. I guess I changed something, somewhere, somehow. Thanks for all your help [smile]
